The website, titled "Veronica Castro Desnuda" Pics, contains over 400 images of this woman in various states of undress that have been posted on 4chan and Reddit by an anonymous user boasting about his crime as he acquired the pictures from her iCloud account. Other pictures include screenshots of the woman's call logs, text messages, and email conversations. Castro is an actress who has appeared in several telenovelas (soap operas) including "Preciosa", "Sueño de amor", "Quiero amarte" and most recently "La viuda joven". She is also a model and social media star with more than 1 million followers on Instagram. She has appeared on E! News, Univision's ¡Despierta América!, among other shows to promote her career. This incident began on January 16, 2018 when Castro began receiving calls from an unknown number attempting to extort money. When the extortionist realized that Castro was not going to be threatened, he decided to take advantage of her by posting the photographs on the internet. On January 18, Castro reported the theft to the National Police who are investigating the crime. Additionally, she filed a complaint with her carrier which has informed its users of potential risks in case their accounts are hacked. As a precautionary measure, Verónica Castro recommended that her followers remove sensitive information including photos from their social media accounts. She also asked that her followers send any relevant information to @TalCualDigital on Instagram or simply mention them in their comments so that they can quickly address it. Many in the industry and in the Ecuadorian community have shown their support and concern for Castro after this incident. E! News immediately contacted Castro to ask her about what happened. In a statement, E! News said: "We have been made aware of the situation with Veronica Castro and are currently obtaining more information about it.
